Honored Hero

Immediately following White Rock Will signed up to train for the Shiner GASP, a 100 mile cycle event from Austin to Shiner, TX. Allie has always been our honored hero but in December a high school friend sent me an email. The email was about a family member named Georgia. Georgia is a 10 year old who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on her 10th birthday...December 30, 2009. Will and I were so touched by her story that we contacted her parents to ask if she would be Will's honored hero for his cycling event. You can read more about Georgia's story by clicking on her picture to the left - she has a blog too called Keepin Georgia on Your Mind. We visit Georgia's website almost daily and correspond regularly with her parents. We even went down to Austin to meet her (another post coming soon on that).

It is truly amazing the amount of inspiration adults can draw from children like Georgia. She has six months of treatment plus two years of maintenance ahead of her...needless to say this makes the aches and pains of training seem minor by comparison. Simply said if Georgia can battle cancer Will can ride 100 miles in her honor and let her know she and her family are not alone in this battle.

Georgia and her family have been instrumental in helping Will with his fundraising goals and we cannot thank them enough. Georgia's family and friends along with ours have been so generous.
